Day 1 – Blacktown to West Wyalong – 515kms

Word of the Day: Cold!!

Three very (over) exited Bees headed out of Blacktown and hit the road for Day 1 of their adventure.  Talk about a baptism of fire for Tez our Virgin navigator while Fi relaxed in the back seat.  Picture this … 2 Bees yelling “Where are we going?”, “Do we turn here?” to Tez who was frantically trying to juggle the radio, trip computer, lights, read the route instructions AND most importantly working out which tunes to put on the iPod!!

But all worked out well and she soon mastered the art of navigating with only a few missed turns which we turned into “nature stops” anyway 🙂

After a quick stop to stock the car (at Dan Murphys) we continued on to lunch, which was at Boorowa Central School.  Boorowa is a small service town on the edge of the Southern Highlands which has been a centre for wool and wheat production since the 1840s.

After lunch Tez once again proved that a baptism of fire is the quickest way to learn (meanwhile Fi was still chilling in the back).  We hit some great dirt roads and some pretty full-on mud just as we decided it would be a good idea to overtake one of the slower cars.  Sideways overtaking a Bash car on the wrong side of the road surrounded by trees … got the hearts going that’s for sure!

The Virgin Bees got to experience a few more firsts today too … first Bash party stops, first Bash country pub stop and now we’re off to our Chinese themed dinner in West Wyalong!

So stay tuned for more.
