Day 11 – Broken Hill to Silverton – 50kms

Today is our last Bash day … so very sad. We started the day at Broken Hill North Public School with the BEST brekkie we’ve had on the Bash so far. These guys went to so much effort and the choice on offer was amazing.

Today was also the remote control car race where drivers race the cars bought at auction last night and then donate them to the school. In our wisdom we chose Rob (Gay Elvis) as our driver … and he had nothing! Also in our wisdom we left him in charge of looking after the car and charging it overnight. So what did he do? Left it at the dinner and luckily the officials picked it up. As you can guess we didn’t win!! Lots of fun though.

So off we headed for our very short run to Silverton and lunch at the famous Silverton Hotel. This is the hotel used in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Flying Doctors, Mad Max among others. They have a replica of the Mad Max car outside the pub.

Great fun morning, complete with being seranaded by the local kids from Wilcannia who we donated a Sunshine Coach to. Very touching moment.

Back to Broken Hill to get ready for the final night party … miners theme. The final night is where the awards are given out and special mention to our favourites, the Happy Hippies who took out Best Theme and Car 53 Herbie who won the Putters Award. Outright Winner went to the Flintstones this year and an extremely popular choice for the Perseverance Award was the mini … that thing just kept on going!!

The Bees are very sad that it is now all officially over … but hey what a Bash!! So much fun … even the bad bits were good! One more overnight stop tomorrow in Collie with a few of our buddies and we’re done for 2009.
